Going Green and Staying There For Good

For the past century, quantum leaps in technology have resulted to a more convenient life for all of us… at the cost of the environment. Factories all around the world worked around the clock producing the gadgets that we as well as our parents have been using throughout the 20th century.

The high volume of production has also resulted to high volumes of pollutants released into the atmosphere. Also, we ourselves contribute to the state of the environment through our excessive use of energy at home.Didn-t catch that? This explains it. The more demand there is for energy, the more power plants are forced to use coal and fossil fuels to produce electricity. It means the same: more pollutants are released into the air.

Go Green!

Because of the alarming state of the environment, there has been a clamor going on calling the world to become more environment conscious and to go “green.” Former vice president of the United States Al Gore has been in the forefront of this, even going as far as building a “green” home that is very energy-efficient and conserves energy while at the same avoiding damage to the environment.

How does one go green? First off, you need to stop relying on traditional sources of power and start thinking about alternative sources of power. You can begin by installing means to harness wind energy or solar energy in your home like wind vanes and solar panels. Of the two, wind vanes are cheaper and can even be constructed out of available materials. If you have a large area, you could even make multiple wind vanes to harness more power from the wind.

Last but not the least, start conserving power; don’t use the air-conditioning unit when it’s not needed. Turn off appliances when they are not in use. Remember, it takes more than just installing the technology: going green means commitment in order to achieve long-term results.
