Session: Advanced Manufacturing within a Sustainable Economy
As a leading economic development organization DVIRC serves the needs of nearly 5,000 Small to Midsized advanced manufacturing enterprises (SME) throughout the Philadelphia region. The organization's primary focus is to grow business value for clients and help to establish as an internationally recognized leader in manufacturing competiveness.
DVIRC is among the nations' top ranked thought leaders and implementers of Lean Transformation, (based on the Toyota Production System - a management system focused on the systematic elimination of waste). This expertise led naturally to DVIRC creating Sustainability for Competiveness, a new service for manufacturers that embraces the triple bottom line Philosophy, People, Planet, and Profits.
This service assesses three interrelated core ideas: Energy (reduction and alternative), Environment (in-bound material and output by-products) and Lean/Green (process improvements throughout the value-stream). Opportunities are identified and presented by cost, savings, and payback timeframe for each improvement.
DVIRC's Lean practice and triple bottom line philosophy converged working with Aerzen USA. After working with the DVIRC to implement Lean practices in Aerzen's former facility, and seeing success in just a short period of time, Aerzen USA President Pierre Noack knew that a bold move was necessary to take full advantage of the combined power of Lean and the Triple Bottom Line approach. The decision was made to build a new facility - and to make it a model of sustainability and Lean manufacturing methods. In 2009 the United States Green Building Council (USGBC) awarded Aerzen USA the LEED Gold certification, one of the first manufacturing facilities in Pennsylvania to achieve this high level.
Presenter:
Mark Basla, Vice President, DVIRC Marketing and Business Development
Mike Cronomiz, Re:Vision Architecture
